Many clients remain in hospital while waiting to be transferred to an alternate care setting. Some wait excessively long periods of time, and this delay in care can be detrimental to their overall health and well-being. The acute care hospital is not designed to meet a patient’s restorative, supportive or rehabilitative needs. Not only is the hospital not the right environment for patients, but it can actually slow down their improvement.
To address this concern, Saskatchewan Health Authority is partnering with Kensington Gentle Care Home Ltd. to launch the Kensington Transitional Beds project to continue caring for clients who no longer need to be cared for in a hospital but who still require healthcare services. Clients can convalesce in transitional beds until they are ready to move back home or to a permanent care location in the community.
